Mineral Resources Tasmania

MRT at Devonport and Hobart mineral shows

Hobart

Following the Hobart show's move across to the Elwick showgrounds, it was a virtual stampede and very hard to move around the hall. Needless to say it was very busy all afternoon with lots of book and map sales. Sunday was just as busy, and a longer day, with lots of people wanting to talk rocks. It was great to see lots of kids and young people coming through – hopefully some will eventually become geologists! The fossicking and gemstone books were popular, as was the new fossicking map, plus the basic Tasmanian geology map.

Devonport

The Devonport show was a little slower, with people potentially voting that weekend. But business was steady and a lot of people purchased stacks of maps. Some folks wanted maps for decoration, to brighten their homes, but many seemed very keen to head out exploring. Some also wanted to hit the Geotrails. We hope they all go out and find something to spark their enthusiasm for earth sciences, whether it's gold, gems or just enjoying Tassie's fantastic geology.
