Shaft and Adit Repairs at Oceana Mine, Western Tasmania

Shaft repairs, funded through the Rehabilitation Trust Fund, have been completed at the former Oceana Mine near Zeehan, Tasmania.

The rehabilitation trust fund working group identified a public safety concern due to the proximity to the popular Mt. Zeehan hiking trail, which provides greater public access to Oceana Mine and legacy mining features.

As part of the rehabilitation works, a pre-constructed steel screen was installed and affixed to the ground over the shaft opening as shown in the image below. A handrail was also installed to prevent vehicles from driving over the shaft covering.

All works will be inspected regularly as part of ongoing rehabilitation management of the Oceana Mine.
