New data from Tasmania's SW enhances modelling of Tyennan Orogeny
A recent study of thermobarometric data, predominantly from garnets collected in Tasmania's south-west, indicates a probable early Cambrian back-arc system to the east of the Tasmanian microcontinent, which gave way to an east-directed subduction zone upon back-arc collapse.
The study, which includes researchers from MRT, highlights a case where information from the metamorphic record, particularly the compositional information from garnet, can be harnessed to inform tectonic models involving subduction and broader convergent margin processes.
